My girls live in a very disadvantaged area - our school serves a population where roughly 80-85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. It is very difficult for my girls' parents to pay our already steep cheerleading fee, which does not include the price of new uniforms, so we have very little money left in our cheerleading account. As our school district does not provide extra funds for our squad, we have struggled to come up with money for new uniforms on our own. Instead, my girls must wear uniforms from years past, many of which are torn, stained, and ill-fitting. My girls already suffer from low confidence due to their various financial states. It is painful to watch my girls interact with the wealthier students in our district at games. These girls are clearly embarrassed by the state of our uniforms.
