I teach in a low socio-economic Title 1 urban school district where approximately 80% of my students receive free and reduced price lunch, over 15% are identified as special needs and 5% have limited English proficiency. Many of the students come from single family homes and where one or more of the family members are incarcerated. My students are very bright students and need the right environment coupled with the encouragement and motivation to be successful. The school is often the only safe haven they have. My school is an awesome community of learners with incredible teachers and wonderful administrators who provide a nurturing and enriching learning environment for our students. These students are under-served and just need someone to care about them and their success. I often refer to my students as "Mathematicians at Work." They truly love math and are excited about solving problems with their classmates. Because of their quest and drive for learning mathematics, I push them daily.
