Students enrolled in family and consumer sciences class are in the 9th thru 12th grade. These students are excited to begin their futures and many understand the importance of basic life skills needed to manage their future careers and family life. These students are enrolled in public education and attend family and consumer sciences classes as an elective course. For so many of today's students this course may be their only opportunity to learn how clothing is constructed, how to make good consumer choices about clothing and housewares items, and most importantly, how to mend them when they are damaged. Family and consumer sciences' students are also introduced to basic clothing construction, which will allow them to produce projects inspired by patterns or expand their own imagination to create original designs.
