My students come to me from various homes and backgrounds. Typically, the commonalities among them are not ones of great prestige, influence, or money. They come to me from single families homes, unemployed parents, or parents who have little education themselves. Few have traveled outside of our small rural county. Not many have experienced things needed for real understanding of how math extends beyond text books and the four walls of my classroom. I feel it is my responsibility to provide them with resources, information, and experiences they will not get from their homes.
