I am a public school teacher in Florida. I am the cosponsor of our school's book club along with the media specialist. This is our fourth year conducting the book club. The book club is open to all students in grades 3-5. We read books from the Florida Sunshine State Young Reader Award Nominees. Each year 15 books are nominated to receive the award. We meet twice each month to discuss the book, learn about the author, play trivia games, engage in reading activities, and Skype with the authors. These book club members are a diverse group learners who are highly motivated to read. The members become book advocates and promote the nominated books to their peers in their classes. The word spreads like wildfire and the books fly off the shelves. We are in need of more copies of these engaging novels to meet the desires of our book club members and general population.
