My Kindergartners' school career got off to an unfortunately rocky start, kicking off with their original teacher going into an emergency retirement in early October. To make matters worse, they've had not only one, but two, replacement teachers quit shortly after their start. Sadly, these poor students haven't had the structure, routine, or love that comes with having a stable Kindergarten environment. Not only that, but the data shows that this change has put them at a major disadvantage academically; these students are severely struggling in Reading and Math. In Reading, more than 80% of my students are currently performing below grade level, which is shockingly low for the middle of the year. On that note, a lot of my students come from homes with little to no technology, so access to educational technology is limited. At my school, due to the language barrier and the lack of education of parents, academic support at home comes few and far between, which hinders academic success.
