I have requested five Hokki Stools and 3 stability balls for alternate seating in my classroom. A Hokki stool is an ergonomic stool that transforms stationary sitting into an activity. A stability ball is like an exercise ball that is used for sitting. The human body, especially 5-year-old human bodies, are not designed to be static. Numerous scientific studies have shown important interconnections between body, mind, and soul. Physical movement increases oxygen supply and is essential for stimulating cognition. When we are physically engaged, specific hormones are released that have a positive influence on brain activity. As a result, attention spans grow longer and the ability to concentrate improves. Research proves that this relationship between movement and brain activity leads to better academic results. Having the opportunity to choose a Hokki Stool or stability ball will help my students succeed academically and develop a love of learning.
