My students attend a historically low performing school that has recently seen tremendous strides. With that said, these strides are still not far enough to reach a necessary level of college and career readiness. My students are in desperate need of some transformational educational changes. The majority of the students I teach are not yet ready for college-level academic courses partly due to the daily challenges they face that work to impede their learning and investment in education. Recently, I showed my students data on the present education gap in our society. They were at first angered and then made a pact to work incredibly hard to overcome these inherent obstacles. They want to achieve their goals and dreams and to do so are in desperate need of the same resources available to students at high-income, high-achieving schools.
