Uniqueness is a wonderful thing and I can truly say that each of my students is wonderfully unique. As a fifth and sixth-grade, special education teacher, I teach students in small groups no larger than 15. We progress toward goals in reading, writing, math, and social-emotional challenges. These students are kind and caring individuals for whom school can be daunting. Moderate special needs such as learning disabilities, cognitive challenges, autism or other spectrum disorders, social/emotional challenges, and mobility issues make differentiation and a positive attitude a must... and we have just that! Our school district's wonderful diversity of cultures, languages, and backgrounds are certainly reflected in my classroom. Many of the children are English language learners that bring learning styles and languages from various cultures. What fabulous stories we have to tell!
