I am a special education teacher at a small middle school in upstate South Carolina. I have approximately 40 sixth and seventh grade students on my caseload. Our middle school implements an inclusion model to serve our students. The inclusion model is a team teaching model. The special education teacher and the general education teacher work together to teach the subject to the students. I also teach a study skills class to the 8th grade students who struggle with executive functioning skills. It is challenging to meet the needs of so many diverse students, but it is a great environment for the students to learn in and allows children who struggle but don't qualify for special education services to benefit from the teaching strategies I bring to the classroom.
