My students are bright children who have not been able to learn how to read using traditional methods in general education. The school that I work for has recognized this and created daily time for these children to receive extra instruction in reading. However, multi-sensory materials are not available to all of the teachers providing the instruction. Having a means to stimulate all the senses while learning to read is imperative for these students to make the necessary brain connections. Engaging multiple parts of the brain has been shown to increase reading achievement, especially in those children that have not mastered sound/letter correspondence traditionally.
