Technology offers a world of opportunities in today's classrooms. I want my students to have access to great technology, but I also want to protect them from the sites and sounds of kid-unfriendly material. I teach a social skills/behavior unit for kids in Kinder-2nd grade. In years past, I have struggled to keep students away from internet material that is not appropriate for them. Even though our district has set up security safeguards, some material sneaks through. With individual technology access, my students can learn social skills in a whole new way. They can read stories and play games together, or use the headphones for more individualized learning. As the teacher, I can choose specific apps that help my students reach their specific goals. My students can do all of this and more using the Amazon Fire tablets, all while staying safe because of the parental controls that are available on these tablets.
