Our technology room is a dynamic open space where student’s dreams come alive. I teach high school digital imaging. We start each day with status reports by students of where they are at in the development of their film projects. I give direct instruction, but more importantly direction and inspiration to students. I required students to research and write a statement of purpose, treatment and a script before moving to any film development. This involves creativity, critical thinking, sequencing and technical writing. I am in my 3rd year teaching in an urban setting. Access to technology is a challenge, but my students have shown great perseverance and creativity by not letting anything stop them. Even without the stop animation software, students created flipbook animated stories with pencil and paper, as well as, wrote scripts complete with storyboards. Students were inspired by the Lego movie and are working each day to create an in-house LEGO movie.
