The students at my school come from many diverse backgrounds. We speak English as our common language, but there many different languages spoken in their homes. As a school community we focus on character traits such as empathy, respect and responsibility to build connections across our diversity. One thing that the majority of the students have in common is poverty. 98% of the students in the school qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. With this level of poverty, we often see children struggling with issues related to trauma, aggression, sleep deprivation and frequent relocation. Many of our students have challenges with maintaining attention in their classrooms. They so desperately want to be successful and please their teachers, but their constant need for motion and sensory input make that challenging. I would describe our school as a safe haven for many of our students. We are a family, one that is "All In" to see our students succeed.
