COVID-19 has pushed students into using more electronic devices use than ever before. Our students are in front of screens for a large portion of the day. Our project will show how social-emotional and academic learning can be exciting when you are learning through disc golf. Once our students each have discs and learn how to play golf with them, they can play this game in any surrounding environment for free. The game of disc golf teaches the students discipline and structure while also allowing them to be creative and social in an outdoor environment. Students can play disc golf individually or in a group of four while still practicing social distancing. Even though it is an individual sport, it comes with all of the benefits of learning from friendly competition. The physics of the disc's flight is important to learn in order to become good at disc golf. Each disc has flight numbers that the students will rely on in order to adjust the speed, glide, turn, and fade of a disc. This challenges the students to learn about the physics of flight and to increase their hand-eye coordination. Thank you for considering our project to help students get outside and play disc golf during the COVID-19 pandemic.
