Our school serves 650 students from kindergarten through eighth grade. A majority of our students, 88%, participate in the free and reduced lunch program. This project would benefit a self-contained program within the school. Our program is called the "Challenge Program" and our students all have significant support needs and require intensive support with academics, social skills, and functional life skills. Our students participate in many classes with the general education students, including Science, Language Arts, PE and Art. An important component of the curriculum for these students is the development of functional life skills. We work to develop these life skills by participating in community-based field trips at least once a month and by participating in weekly cooking activities.
