Because of the nature and complexity of students’ disabilities, all math and science instruction needs to be adapted and individualized to an appropriately challenging level for each student. In addition, because of students’ receptive and expressive language deficits, students require substantial additional supports, such as visual support, tactile exploration, and hands-on materials, in order to comprehend the material and communicate about it with peers and staff. Providing this high level of differentiation in students’ math and science curriculum requires a variety of resources, many of which can be very time-consuming to create and expensive to acquire.
