The kids in my class have hard-working parents who hold down multiple jobs with long hours to assure their kids have food on the table and a roof over their heads. Although these parents want to help their kids achieve success, books for kids to read are not, understandably, always the priority. To help the kids become stronger readers, part of their homework each night is to read at home with a parent, grandparent, older brother or sister, or caregiver. Most families make the time to read with their little ones, but when they do they realize they have very few level-appropriate, interesting books for the kids to read. Often parents come to me asking if they may borrow books from my little classroom library. I'm more than happy to oblige, but my supply is limited also. I want to provide inexpensive, age and level appropriate books in a variety of genres for families to take home and use for an extended period of time.
