Ours is a Title One school and almost 90% of our students receive free lunch, indicating they come from low income families. Often our students come from households with little or no available reading material at home and no access to a public library. They may come from generations of family that have not had success at reading and certainly not found it enjoyable. The school library is the first and only place many of our students have to get "hooked on a good book". Once that happens, the experience of knowing that reading can be pleasurable and fun can completely turn them around. It all starts with the right book at the right time.
