My students are so deserving of this donation. They are fifth and sixth grade students in a rural community where we serve approximately 900 students in our school. Sixty percent of those students are on free or reduced lunch and tell me almost daily how much they like being at school. These statements tell me that often for our students, home is not a place where they want to be. At school, in my room, they feel safe and cared for. The students who come to my classroom are students who are reading and doing math at up to four grade levels behind, so to make it real, I have some kids in fifth grade who still cannot add and subtract when re-grouping is needed. It breaks my heart. Without someone doing something now, I fear for their futures.
