The students in my classroom come from very diverse backgrounds; some come from military families living on base while others are from the local community. With such transient lives, the majority of my students are constantly having to adapt to new schools and cultures. As such, providing stories of other cultures or the experiences of people from around the world will help them as they strive to adapt to each new situation. Their own personal stories also help students from local families to learn about places beyond our small community and vice versa. With each of us coming from a different part of the country or from another part of the world, our classroom has become a melting pot of cultures, backgrounds, knowledge, and interests.
