I teach second grade in a school that services both rural and suburban area. I currently have 18 students in my second grade class. The students in my class come from a very low socio-economic background. All but two students in my class receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. My second grade students read on a kindergarten reading level. The students I teach are hard workers. They have a strong desire to learn but need extra academic assistance to be successful.
