My children struggle. They live in a high poverty neighborhood-the poorest in the USA-and they are learning disabled, among other classified disabilities. In some cases, the disadvantage is not classified. My students are also bright, lovable, helpful, kind, considerate, and, in a few words, a dream class. They inspire me everyday with their openness, their enthusiasm, and their goodness. These are children who look at the world and want to imagine themselves participating in it in inspiring ways. And, again, they REALLY do struggle. Learning to read, or to write, or to calculate, is an UPHILL battle. With careful attention, they can make it through a page or two without becoming exhausted or, sometimes, discouraged. That's where I come in. I encourage and coach and help them to see that the road ahead will be opening up as the day, week, and months go by. With your help, we can make their academic life easier.
