My students have a need and desire to work on STEM projects but lack the foundational skills to work up to those goals. By working with this 3D printer they can build the parts for STEM projects, like bridges, parts for simple machines , and cars or boats powered by renewable resources, and see how computer applications can create real world items and use those items to solve problems. Learning the practical knowledge about how things work is not enough, they need the applicational knowledge to truly learn how things work and how to fix problems. A big portion of my students have never built using scientific principles or solved problems using scientific methods and this 3D printer would help with real world applications.
