We live in the Sunshine State! How silly is it that we spend the majority of our school day in a classroom? This project will allow my students to explore and learn in their own outdoor learning environment. My students will use the convertible benches as a place to sit and discuss their research and learning, and they easily convert to a table so that they can work on their group project outside! My students will also benefit from an umbrella, so that some can sit in the shade to work, while others may choose to have a small mat to work independently in the sun. Research has shown how important is it for students to be active and outside. Giving them the opportunity to work outside during class will give them the fresh air they so desperately need! Sadly, students now only spend time outside during recess. Many play on tablets or watch TV when they get home. I hope to change this for our students by giving them an outdoor learning space. My students will be fully engaged with the raised planters, planting wildflowers and eventually vegetables. Students will take charge of some of their science standards by observing the plant cycle first hand. We will use the sidewalk chalk to do real-world math lessons, without having to use up paper.
