The students at my school come from economically disadvantaged homes. While Hispanic and African American students make up 90% of our population, the other 10% are highly diverse. A charity group places refugees in the apartment complex across the street from our school. I have students from Nepal, DR Congo, Vietnam, Burma, and many more. These children have escaped war torn countries and are embracing the education that our country is offering them. My school has a very high drop out rate. We start with a freshman class of about 800 and graduate about 100. The odds are against them, but my students have so much potential.
