My project is encouraging students to develop an appreciation and, ultimately, a love for reading. We currently have a class set of a novel that each student in the grade is required to read. Unfortunately, what that means is they are sharing a book with several other students, and the books must always stay in the classroom. With students sharing books, they are not able to annotate, and they cannot feel true ownership of their books. It is important for students to realize that they can take their books and read them anytime and anywhere. Particularly with our reluctant readers, creating a "connection" with their books is essential in encouraging a desire to read.
