My classroom is the 5th grade Special Education resource room. All of my students have IEPs with goals pertaining to reading and writing, with the majority having goals concerning staying focused during class. Our school is a Title 1 school that has majority of the students coming from the high poverty area that surrounds my school. In 5th grade, the teachers require the students to have headphones. Since the state standardized tests are now transition to online, we spend a lot of time working on the computers to get the students used to the computer. Most of my students can't afford headphones so they end up using second hand head phones that don't necessarily work, literally ones that came with Walkmans and CD players from the 90s. My students are often the ones over looked and don't get the resources they need to extend their learning. Often the upper primary grades are the last chance to hook children with the feelings of success so they will continue their education.
