The students enrolled in my American Studies course are 11th graders who enrolled in the course because they are interested in the idea of learning similar themes and doing combined projects in both their English and History classes. This year, many of the students were put into the American Studies program in the hopes that having a combined History and English class would help to improve their study skills and grades for both classes.The school the students attend is located in a rural/suburban area of East Contra Costa County and many of my students are on free or reduced lunch. While the notebook is an excellent school to organize their notes, graded work, and handouts, it is a hardship for students and parents to spend the money to get this large notebook. Many of my students have approached me saying that they either need assistance getting the notebook or have to wait until their parents next paycheck to get it.
