Our ESL students come from varying parts of the world, with varying stories. Currently, we serve students that speak seven different languages. Some have already graduated from their own country's high school, but are too young to not live in the US and attend school. We serve students who come to us as sixteen year olds, but haven't attended school in their home country since they were ten...the age in which they can legally drop out. However, our kids are resilient. They are placed in a fast track language immersion program that allows them to acquire the basics of English before they are exited to a sheltered or Special ESL class. The point is to make them as comfortable with our social norms and our language as possible before they are exited out.
