Across the nation, field trips are being eliminated from school district’s budgets...mine is no exception! Field trips enrich and expand the curriculum, strengthen observation skills by immersing children into sensory activities, increase children's knowledge in a particular subject area and expand children's awareness of their own community. Our planned trip to the African American Museum in Philadelphia will provide my students with an opportunity to explore social studies with vivid hands, interactive experiences in African American history. They will also be able to participate in a traditional African theatre style called Mungamano, an interactive performance that includes storytelling, folk music, conjuring, puppets and masks. Participants sing, dance, chant and chat with characters throughout the performance.
