My 12th grade students have moderate disabilities. Although many are socially typical, they have severe learning disabilities that limit their academic functioning and their ability to attend college or be successful in competitive employment without support. My students are powerful individuals learning to navigate the difficulties of adulthood while coping with the challenges that having a disability brings. My school is a S.T.E.M. high school that delivers project-based learning in every class. Students are asked to participate in projects that push them to act as they would in an adult work environment. In addition, it is a Title 1 urban high school. The majority of students are living in poverty and qualify for free and reduced lunch.
