I have 30 students who come from an underprivileged area; many come from rough home styles and some with single parent households. A majority of my students are Latinos. I have a few African American and Asian students as well. Many of them are motivated to learn, but certain circumstances like a lack of resources impedes their learning. Some of my highest academic students are not being challenged, my low students are not motivated for whatever the reason might be. However, when their interest is sparked with books they enjoy -- they are engaged and encouraged to learn. They have little access to technology at home and in school is where they have some computer access. They attend a Title I school, where 100% of the students receive free-reduced lunch. It is a public school of about 520 students, that is in a "bad" area where many students are exposed to unfortunate situations at their age. The school lacks some important resources like books that can capture my students interest.
