I teach at a Title I school in urban Fort Worth, Texas. My students are a varied demographic, 77 percent Hispanic, 20 percent black, and the remaining 3 percent is a mix of Asian, pacific islander, and white. I adore ALL of my students and encourage exposure to literature of all types. Many of my parents do not speak English and are very timid in approaching me about their child's education. And sadly, many of my parents are absent. I work every day on closing the achievement gap, and strive to expose my students to academic language and concepts. Some struggle, some suffer the effects of a home life that would be unimaginable to you or I, but MOST are excited to be challenged and engaged. Help me engage my students with classroom sets of the best possible literature.
