Children are continually growing intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. I feel that fifth grade is a very important year in that growth process. This is a key year for strengthening important skills that will be the basis for all learning. At the top of the list are academics, especially Literacy and Mathematics. Also high up on the list of important things to develop are self esteem, study skills, and social interaction skills. My classroom uses a variety of unorthodox methods to encourage children to strive for their best, and to think creatively. In doing so, the children will learn how to best work independently and how to work cooperatively with peers when appropriate. It is important to me that children learn, enjoy their school experience and feel good about themselves, no matter their unique learning needs.
