As a special education life skills teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, there are often limited resources and materials to truly carry out life skills lessons and activities. Our traveling coffee cart will teach students valuable life and vocational skills as well as interpersonal relationship skills and everyday math and money skills. We will have up to 20 life skills students alternate in preparing and running the cart by taking orders, making coffee, asking customers their cream and sugar preferences, and collecting payment with guidance and support provided by teachers, staff, and therapists as needed. The students will sell coffee to staff and visitors throughout the school building. This cart will also provide an excellent opportunity for inclusion and community building within the entire student body. Students will make sales to faculty, staff, and administrators either through traveling the halls with our "Caffe Rocks Coffee Cart" or by picking a school hot spot to sell our fine coffee. We plan to start once a week and eventually hope to work up to 3 days per week.
