I serve pre-kindergarten and elementary students with a variety of disabilities in a high-poverty area in a large, urban school district in California. My students all have disabilities that affect their speech and language including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities. They have unique communication needs and often require materials created specifically for them. Some of my students use signs, pictures, and both low-tech and high-tech communication devices to get their wants and needs met and to participate in the classroom, at home, and in the community. With the materials, I can create or purchase online, I can make visual supports, schedules, communication aids, adapted books, and pictures to support my emerging and non-readers.
