Throw Yourself Into Art is a three-dimensional design project for our middle school students that will focus on hands-on critical thinking and learning. Student will create ceramic vessels using both hand-building and throwing methods. This project meets art objectives and addresses several Common Core objectives in other areas of study. The purpose of this project is to engage students in the learning process while promoting critical thinking and problem-solving. Students will experience the art of throwing clay on a modern pottery wheel. They will discover how the ceramic process works and how clay undergoes both a physical and chemical change throughout the process. All student artists will participate in an art critique at the end of the lesson in order to evaluate works and what the students have learned.
