The 23 students in my classroom glow with a light that only comes from a constant, never ending curiosity. They are hungry for information about absolutely everything and the questions only increase as we read more and more as a class and independently. While many of them do not have the opportunity to explore worlds outside of our community in Louisiana, books are our vehicle of exploration. We meet characters from other states, other countries, who live through adventures we can only imagine. Through these adventures into the worlds created by talented authors we are able to develop empathy for others, ask powerful questions about history and our world, and broaden our own experiences without ever leaving the classroom. My students love these experiences every day when they enter the classroom, their wonder at the world around them keeps us all constantly on our toes.
