I teach Social Studies to grades 9 - 12 at a rural public school in Oregon. The students are part of a tight-knit agricultural community located in between Portland and Salem. This unique location offers students access to urban resources, while maintaining a rural lifestyle. Students in my classroom own and shape their learning experience. I feel that it is important to act as the classroom facilitator and I mesh required academic standards with social studies lessons based on student interest. I am very passionate about exposing students to the diverse global society outside the classroom walls. Teaching students how to think critically and to be open-minded global citizens are the top priorities in my classroom. Teaching is the greatest job in the world, and I thoroughly enjoy helping to shape my students into positive forces in society.
