I’m striving to build a classroom that envelops my students’ inquisitive minds. The picture books I’ve selected will give them a library that not only engages them in story, but takes the narrative further—asking them to challenge norms and question the world as they know it. The manipulatives will be incorporated into a “Provocation Station”: an area of the classroom where students can use lose materials (such as wooden rods, plastic caps, clay, magnetic shapes) to respond or reflect on a premise initiated by the story. Additionally, I’ve selected balance chairs to add to my collection of flexible seats, which allow energetic students to focus on the task at hand and simultaneously allow them to freely move.
