My students have various ranges of academic abilities. Many students are very successful academically but the students who struggle shut down at times simply due to a need to develop a strength in literacy. We have many programs for the primary grades to help struggling students but for 4th and 5th grades we do not have much, if anything available at our school site. Our school has a lot of support but lacks the funds to purchase intervention programs. With the books you donate, I will be able to plan and develop a program for our upper grade teachers to help students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. The plan is to have small reading groups and each week have a different book. With this book students will work on decoding words, building fluency, and stamina. In addition, they will have an opportunity to discuss the books both at a basic and inferential level of comprehension . For a balanced literacy program they will also write about their understanding
