Students remember things when they are visual, colorful and interesting to look at. This strategy will help my students retain more information rather than just handwriting notes, although there will be some of that too! Middle school students need help with creating great notebooks that they can study from to ensure academic success. When we use colored pencils to color code our notes, they are more memorable. When we can cut and glue images, maps and charts into our notebooks, they become more interactive and memorable. Studies show that we remember things when we write them down rather than use pre-typed notes. We are even more likely to remember things when we can tie images, colors, and other visual representations to them. These supplies will help them make exciting and memorable note catchers.
