My students are often reluctant readers because reading is hard for them. We practice reading daily and learn new skills to support our reading. My students have an insatiable curiosity and want to learn more about the world around them. However, they lack the skills needed to sate their curiosity. I need to level the "playing field" by giving my students opportunities to access information beyond our books. Having an iPad will not only provide additional opportunities for my students to learn but will also allow them to access different formats of information (videos, websites, apps, etc.). They will be able to address questions they still have on topics they have read about. They will be able to make more personal connections to text when they can explore other sources of information.
