My students are in grades 10-12 and come from a variety of economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds. Our students enjoy being active in class but this does not always translate into their own personal time - this is often because they are not aware of what opportunities exist around them or how to access them. My job is to connect these dots together to get our students engaged in the local outdoor environment through activity. Adolescence is a key time for the formation of lifelong physical activity habits - we want our students to leave school feeling confident, competent, and motivated to be active throughout their life and this starts with taking advantage of local resources. Many of our students report that they are stressed - research has demonstrated that being outdoors helps reduce stress but it is important for students to experience how this helps first hand.
