My students are 6th graders in a Minnesota middle school. 50% are on free and reduced lunch and with concerns at home revolving around meeting basic family needs, they can't afford to buy books and have very little access to the public library. I need to have colorful, engaging books that will inspire a love of non-fiction, at their fingertips. They love to read fiction, but if they are to become truly literate and "read to learn" in all their subjects throughout their entire educational lives, I need to help them love facts, charts, graphs, photographs and learning all they can about a subject of interest. Inspiring a love for reading for life is my mission.

About my class
