As struggling readers, students often become discouraged. Interest levels are limited and opportunities may not always be available. With a mobile library in my classroom, students have accessibility to more books of various genres. Often students come to me, asking if I have a book that may help them with a project. This will give them the option to look through a variety of resources. I once had a first grader who did not want to come to reading intervention. I knew he liked sharks. I was able to find a non-fiction text about sharks which was the perfect opportunity to break the ice. Everyone is a reader, some just haven't found their favorite book yet! I want my students to be excited about reading. Perhaps they find a favorite character or author and they want to explore books in a series. Of course students can access books on line, but there's nothing like having a book in your hands. The colorful pictures and sharp, crisp print can be engaging for children. Turning pages and being able to flip through a text can spark interest for any child!
