Many students struggle with making connections in math. With the materials I’ve chosen, I hope to change my students’ thinking about how they see math and themselves as mathematicians. The books from the Mathematical Mindsets curriculum offer rich lessons in all areas of math that tie directly to our district curriculum and common core state standards. These lessons provide students with the opportunity to make connections between visual strategies and algorithms. They are activities with imbedded differentiation that offer challenges and support for all students. The book about number talks will give my students a chance to work on fluency and discourse while learning flexible approaches for working with numbers.
