The vast majority of my students come from bad home environments, particularly for education purposes. Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and participate in the free lunch program. My students' parents either are unemployed, or they work 2-3 jobs to make it. Many of them do not have transportation, so parent involvement at the school is extremely limited. We live in North Carolina and current budget cuts have been severe. Many schools have very good PTO/PTA involvement but not at our school for reasons I've already mentioned. Although factors are against them, my students are still eager to learn.
