Are 4th graders hard on pencil sharpeners? You bet they are. My 4th graders are young kids learning to be independent citizens. Do I want them to sharpen their own pencils? Absolutely! Do they want to solve problems, fix things, and make their world a better place? Without a doubt. I love this about 4th graders. I love their helpful spirits, curious minds, and enthusiastic attitudes. There are 30 of them in my classroom, and we are a family. We spend each day learning at our rural, place-based community charter school in agricultural Oregon. We are blessed to live and learn together...but we need pencils in order to learn efficiently.
